It’s crucial to steer clear of substantial sun exposure and tanning beds for a minimum of 4 weeks before your treatment.
- Refrain from using self-tanner for 2 weeks prior to your appointment.
- Steer clear of aspirin and Ibuprofen for one week leading up to your treatment. Let the Provider know if you’re on blood thinners or have a regular aspirin or ibuprofen regimen.
- Avoid alcohol for 2 days before your treatment.
- Notify the Provider if you’ve taken Accutane (oral acne medication) within the past year.
Recovery following an IPL treatment is variable among patients, typically taking less than a week, and in some cases only a few hours to a few days. Immediately after the procedure, you might observe mild redness and swelling, akin to a sunburn. You can use ice packs or a cool washcloth as needed. If treating freckles and other dark spots, the treated area might experience dryness and flaking. Some spots could temporarily appear darker, but they should naturally shed within a few days. You’re welcome to apply makeup immediately after an IPL session if you wish. For the next three days post-treatment, it’s advisable to avoid strenuous activities and situations that may cause skin flushing.
- Post-IPL Care – • Avoid hot showers for 48 hours.
- For the first 2 days following the treatment, refrain from using aspirin, Ibuprofen, consuming alcohol, strenuous exercise, and activities that might lead to skin flushing.
- Avoid potent topical products like retinols and glycolic acid items for one week after each session.
- Shield the treated area from direct sunlight and utilize sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher for 4 to 6 weeks post-treatment.
- Avoid swimming for a week, particularly in chlorinated pools.
- Refrain from intense exercise for 48 hours; you can resume gym activities about 2 days after treatment.
- No hot tubs or Jacuzzis for 48 hours.
- Activities causing excessive perspiration should be avoided for 24 hours. • Do not pick at or remove any loosening or peeling skin.
- Wait for 14 days after the treatment before engaging in electrolysis, facial waxing, or using depilatories (hair removal products).

- Avoid shaving on the day of the procedure to prevent skin irritation. If there’s dense hair, closely shave the day before the appointment.
- Do not treat moles, warts, or actinic keratosis.
- If prone to cold sores, take antiviral agents for 2 days before and on the day of treatment.
- Avoid blood-thinning agents (aspirin, fish oil, Omega-3, Vitamin E) for 1 week prior. Resume after treatment.
Post-treatment:
- For 2 weeks, avoid harsh topical products or alcohol-based toners.
- Resume your normal skincare routine after 24 hours.
- Avoid anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil for 1 week, as they can interfere with the natural inflammatory process important for skin rejuvenation.
- Refrain from using ice on your face or using arnica or bromelain, as these might interfere with the natural inflammatory process. Cold compresses may be used if necessary 24 hours post treatment
